Hillsborough Links

Many are more qualified to write on this topic: more passionately, more intelligently, closer to the situation, whether by age or proximity. Whether on today's developments or the history of the Hillsborough Disaster. This is one of those times where it's hardest being a Liverpool supporter on the wrong side of the ocean.

But that's no excuse for avoiding such an important moment in the club's history; every supporter, Liverpool or otherwise, should know the details of what happened and recognize today for what it is: some much-needed closure, after 23 long years, and some semblance of justice. First concrete steps toward justice, at the very least.

So all I can recommend is "read." Read the history, read the Hillsborough Independent Panel's report and conclusion, and learn for yourself.

Hillsborough: 22 Years Later

22 years later, there are still families and survivors coming to terms with the unspeakable tragedy they've suffered. There are still many who don't understand the actual causes of the disaster, in part thanks to a major newspaper which continues to traffic in lies. And there are many still fighting for justice and the truth. After 22 years.

As a supporter on the wrong side of the ocean, it's impossible to fully empathize with those who lost loved ones. I will never be able to fathom how horrible April 15 1989 was for them. But the sentiment remains sincere. All Liverpool fans – all football fans – can sympathize with the tragedy and fight to ensure it never happens again. You'll never walk alone.

96 Never Forgotten

A thought for the families who lost loved ones at Hillsborough 21 years ago today. Still fighting for justice, still searching for the truth. 'You'll never walk alone' never seemed more fitting.

04.15.89

18 years ago 96 Liverpool fans went to a football game and didn’t come home. They’ll never be forgotten, and every day the custodians of our game need to ensure it never happens again.

Part of me feels tacky putting this up here, across the ocean and aside from being a Liverpool fan, otherwise unaffected by this awful tragedy, but when it comes down to it, the remembrance feels warranted. We all need never forget.

Justice for the 96. YNWA.

Celtic JFT96 Banner

Posting this here, in case some don’t see it at the official site or any number of Liverpool forums, as I feel it’s more than important enough to merit it. And worth seeing it twice if that’s the case.

This banner hung during Sunday’s Old Firm derby. Good on you all Celtic supporters involved. Fantastic touch, class acts.

If anyone, American or not, doesn’t know what this is referring to, please please please visit the Hillsborough Justice Campaign.
