The more players going off to internationals the more fatigue to the squad.

I know that under Benitez we had tons of internationals (most in the league at one point, I think). And, injury-proneness is always a factor...Torres, I'm looking at you, prick.

Also, I think jet-leg is a factor. As in, the further distance to travel to a frindly/qualifier, the more fatigue. Just glad Lucas only traveled to London (and was his commaning self, again. Even while a lot of the Brazilians looked quite average, or at least disjointed).

Anyway, it turns out onraveling the affect of international breaks on squad performances is a complex onion.Tom Foolerynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33779660.post-57598591202014524282011-09-06T16:37:57.724-04:002011-09-06T16:37:57.724-04:00It doesn't matter what the actual results were...It doesn't matter what the actual results were, because that doesn't measure the impact on chance of winning, fatigue, injury, etc.

For example, Stewart Downing just played almost 2 complete games during this "break" -- does that help raise his fitness or his fatigue? Perhaps both. He may be fitter in the short term but more fatigued in the medium/long term.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33779660.post-91738039952281505342011-09-06T09:27:21.423-04:002011-09-06T09:27:21.423-04:002010-11
